Once you've reached your weight goal, you don't stop the medication — you shift to maintenance. Here's what that looks like.
Maintenance is lower, not zero
Most patients can hold weight on a dose 1–2 steps below their peak. So if you titrated up to 2.4 mg semaglutide, you might maintain on 1.0–1.7 mg.
Why not just stop
Stopping triggers appetite rebound. The medication is doing real ongoing work even at the maintenance dose. Lower dose means less risk of side effects, lower cost, sustainable for years.
The conversation to have
Around month 9–12, when your weight has been stable for 6–8 weeks, your doctor will discuss the step down. We don't push you to a number — we adjust based on how your body responds.
