A surprising minority of patients notice that certain foods 'taste different' early in treatment. The science is unclear, the management is simple.

What patients report

Coffee tasting metallic. Sweets tasting sickly. Oily food being repulsive even before you eat it. Usually emerges in weeks 1–3.

Why it might happen

GLP-1 receptors exist on taste cells; the medication may directly modulate signalling. Slowed gut motility also changes the post-meal feedback. Often resolves within 4–6 weeks.

What to do

Don't force foods that don't appeal. Lean into the foods that still taste right — usually fresh, less processed. Almost always self-resolves; no specific treatment needed.
